Iaido - Dutch National Championships - The Hague
On Sunday 10 April, the Dutch Jodo and Iaido Championships were held in The Hague. One or more Yushinkanners competed in almost every category and a number of great prizes were won. Bayu van Houten became Dutch Champion in the Nidan category! In addition, Ron Snellens (mudan), Sander Filon (yondan) and Piotr Kukla (godan) came second in their category.
Ikkyu exams were also held, both Martine Mussies and Enneke Burgemeester passed! Congratulations to everyone.
Kendo - NKR seminar - Amsterdam
After a year and a half there was finally big kendo event: a two-day seminar in Amsterdam, concluded with exams.
Several nanadan led the seminar and then took place behind the jury tables.
From Yushinkan, Symke passed his nidan and Carlos passed his sandan, what a great achievement!
Iaido – NKR seminar – Amsterdam
Finally a large event! The NKR organised a big iaido and jodo seminar in Amsterdam on the 4th and 5th of September.
Sunday was the iaido-day. The ZNKR kata were treated in the morning under the guidance of various national and international nanadan sensei. They were assisted by our own David sensei and Elaine sensei. In the afternoon it was time for the exams.
For Yushinkan, Ron, Carlos and Symke passed their ikkyu and Jos and Baur passed their sandan! Congratulations!
Iaido - EIC - Athens
The European Iaido Championships (EIC) were held in Athens, Greece, on the 1st till 3rd of November. Yushinkan provided 5 participants for the Dutch team and one for the Turkish team. There was a very good seminar on Friday, led by Kusama sensei (hachidan hanshi) assited by Tanno sensei (hachidan hanshi) and Nakamura sensei (hachidan hanshi).
Then, on Saturday, individual matches took place. During those matches, Noël Fonhof(not from Yushinkan, but part of the Dutch team) won the gold medal in the shodan category! Stan won the bronze medal and the fighting spirit prize in the yondan category. Moreover, Piotr won the fighting spirit prize in the godan category! Ratna (mudan), Bayu (nidan), Taciser (sandan) and Sander (yondan) from Yushinkan gave it their best, but lost gloriously before reaching the medals.
The Sunday started with the team taikai. After some intense matches, the Dutch team won the gold by beating the Greek team in the finals! The Dutch team consisted of Noël, Stan, Elise and Piotr. Additionally, Taciser, fighting for the Turkish team won the fighting spirit for her performance in the team taikai. Afterwards, examinations were held and Ratna passed her shodan exam!

Rokudan iaido at Yushinkan!
David Smits and Elaine van Ommen Kloeke traveled to Japan at the start of Juni. There, under the guidance of both Matsuoka sensei and Kinomoto sensei, they both passed there rokudan (6th dan) examination!
This makes them the first Dutch Shinkage Ryu rokudan! Congratulations!

On the 14th of April Sunday, the annual Dutch National Iaido Individual Championship 2019 was held in Eindhoven. Yushinkan attended with many members and some of them won a prize:

Crowdfunding - send our Taciser to Japan!
Every year in July, All Japan Kendo Federation (AJKF) holds a seminar for kendo leaders all around the world. The 46th Foreign Kendo Leaders’ Summer Seminar will take place in Gedatsu-kai Training Center in Kitamoto, Japan from 19th to 26th of July. During this seminar a maximum of 50 foreign kendo leaders will train under direct guidance of top-level Japanese teachers and learn about history of kendo, fundamental practice, drilling in techniques, refereeing and coaching of students.
Taciser has been recommended by the president of the Netherlands Kendo Federation (NKR) to represent The Netherlands at this special seminar and has accepted as participant by the All Japan Kendo Federation (AJKF). Therefore she will travel to Japan this July. The seminar fee, accommodation, meals and part of domestic transportation in Japan will be covered by the AJKF. However, the participants are responsible to bear the costs of their own round-trip ticket to Japan. We started a crowdfunding to help Taciser gather the money to fly to Japan. Iaido - Ishidocup 2019
On the 26th of January Saturday the annual Ishido Cup 2019 was held in Vleuten, Utrecht.
During this event there was a iaido seminar, iaido taikai and iaido examinations up to 5th dan.

Kendo - new dan grades!
Kendo examinations were held at Amsterdam on the 2nd of December. Carlos Martinez passed his nidan and Inti Suarez passed for his shodan! Very well done to the both of you!
Kendo - Kyu examens
Kendo kyu examinations were held at Yushinkan on the 9th of November. Andrej Mihajlovski and Symke Haverkamp passed their nikyu. Moverover, Olga Efremov and Martine Mussies passes their yonkyu. Well done for all of you!
Yushinkan Birthday
Yushinkan celebrated it's 20th birthday on the 3rd of November. During a cheerful event in Utrecht many demonstrations of several different budo were given. We would like to thank everyone who participated in this event or came to celebrate with us.
Iaido - European championships 2018, Zawiercie
The 25th annual European iaido championships were held in Zawiercie (Poland) during the weekend of the 27th of October. Yushinkan was represented in the Dutch team by 5 iaidoka. During the individual matches almost all participants of the Dutch team fought their way through the poule phase to the knock out matches. Stan Engelen even reached the finals in the yondan category. Although he lost his final match, we can say he won the silver medal that day! On Sunday the team matches were held, the Dutch team made it to the semi finals in which they lost to the Belgium team. This ment that Piotr Kukla and Stan Engelen (both part of the Dutch team for the team matches) received a bronze medal.
Moreover, examinations were held on the Sunday. Bayu van Houten passed for his nidan! Also, Ben Diemel from our sisterdojo Kodokan passed for his shodan! What a nice results!
Iaido - Dutch national team Championship 2018, Voorschoten
The Dutch national team championship was held in Voorschoten on the 17th of June. Several Yushinkan members participated either as competitor or as referee. The 'Samurai Pizza Cats', a team formed the following three Yushinkan members: Sander Filon (yondan), Damion van der Zee (sandan) and Ratna Karis (mudan), won the tournament. Congratulations!
Iaido - Dutch national Championship 2018, Eindhoven
The Dutch national championship was held on April 15th in Eindhoven. Yushinkan participated in every category and took some prizes home. Ratna Karis won the fighting spirit prize. Bayu van Houten won silver in the shodan category. Damion van der Zee became the new national champion in the sandan category. Stan Engelen beat Sander Filon in the finals of the yondan category, they gold and silver respectively. A "clean sweep" in the godan category: Piotr Kukla, David Smits and Elaine van Ommen Kloeke won gold, silver and bronze respectively. Congratulations to all!
Kendo - kyu-examination, Utrecht
There were kyu-examinations in the kendo group at the start of March. Inti Suarez passed his 3rd kyu, Hiro Marumatsu passed his 4th kyu, Nam Giang passed his 5th kyu, both Berke Gurkan and Ernst van de Beek passed their 6th kyu. Congratulations!
Iaido - Ishidocup iaido 2018, Vianen
The Ishidocup was held around the weekend of the 27th and 28th of Januari. With over 200 seminar participants and around 170 taikaik participants, this was single biggerst iaido event ever held in the Netherlands. Ishido sensei was present to lead the seminar. The matches and examinations took place on the 29th of Januari. Yushinkan took several medals home. David Smits won silver and Piotr Kukla won bronze in the godan category (5th dan). Stan Engelen won silver in the yondan category (4th dan) and Sander Filon won bronze in the sandan category (3th dan)
Afterwards, Inti Suarez and Rutger Kruitwagen passed for their nidan and Sander Filon passed for his yondan. Congratulations!
European Championships 2017, Turin
The European Championships were held in Turin during the first weekend of November. Yushinkan was represented by four members in the Dutch national team. Stan Engelen was most successful, he became the European Champion in the yondan category. A well-deserved, wonderful achievement!
Bayu van Houten passed for this shodan during the examinations afterwards, congratulations.
Keiko with Donatella Sensei (Kendo 7th Dan)
On the 18th of August, Donatella Castelli Sensei (Kendo 7th Dan) visited our dojo along with many other kendoka from Museido, Kendo Kai Den Haag and Sakura Kai dojos, and a special guest from Greece National Kendo Team, Dinaki Trelovaporo (Kendo 5th Dan). Thank you all for this instructive and enjoyful keiko evening.

Dutch championships teams iaido 2017, Utrecht
In the 25th of June, the dutch championships teams for iaid were held in Utrecht. A total of ten teams competed for the first national title. Seven members from Yushinkan participated. A 100% Yushinkan team, consisting of Stan Engelen, Rick van de Hoef and Bayu van Houten, called 'Unagi' came in third. Sander Filon and Inti Suarez formed a team together with Baukje Weber from our sisterdojo Kodokan. Their team was called 'Me no ue no tankobu' and won first price! Besides competitors, Yushinkan also provided several referees and volunteers. Yushinkan can look back at a successful tournament
Kendo - Dutch national championships kyu 2017, Vlaardingen
On the 18th of June, the Dutch national championships kyu for kendo were held in Vlaardingen. This was the first time Yushinkan members participated. All participants showed good matches. Rick van de Hoef won the Fighting Spirit Prize.
Dutch national championships 2017, Rotterdam
On the 2nd of April, the Dutch national championships jodo and iaido were held in Rotterdam. Yushinkan members were very successful. Bayu van Houten won the the mudan (no dan) category. Yushinkan-guest Baur Murza won the shodan (1st dan) category. Rick van Houten won the sandan (3rd dan) catergory, whereas Sander Filon won the bronze medal. Stan Engelen won the yondan (4th dan) category. Both Piotr Kukla and David Smits participated in the godan (5th dan) category, Piotr won the gold and David took second place. Great results
Ishidocup 2017, Vianen
On the 28th of Januari, the Ishidocup took place in Vianen. David Smits won the godan (5th dan) category by beating Piotr Kukla (silver) in the finals. Stan Engelen won the yondan (4th dan) category, Jacky Visser came in thirth in that same category.
New dangrades
Iaido examinations were held during a big iaido/kendo/jodo seminar in December in Brussel. Four members of Yushinkan passed their examinations: Floris Kruyne and Rutger Kruitwagen are now shodan, whereas Arne and Jasper Helthuis now have their yondan!
Jacky Visser and Stan Engelen both did yondan examination In addition to a trip to Japan in order to train directly under the supervision of Matsuoka sensei and Kinomoto sensei. Both passed!

European Championships 2016, Budapest
The European iaido championships 2016 were held on the 19th and 20th of November in Budapest, Hungary. Four members of Yushinkan were part of the Dutch delegation. Piotr Kukla was very successful: he became the European champion in the godan (5th dan) category! A hearty congratulations to him!
Iaido examinations, August 2016
A big iaido, jodo and kendo seminar was held in celebration of the 50-year anniversary of the NKR. Iaido examinations took place during this seminar on the 13th of August. Bayu van Houten passed for his ikkyu, and both Andr� van Den Dolder and Inti Suarez passed for their shodan. Congratulations!
From our sisterdojo Kodokan, two more persons passed their examinations. Jordi van Beveren passed for ikkyu and Mario Gon�alves passed for sandan. Also congratulations!
Dutch national championships 2016, Waalre
On the 17th of April, the Dutch national championships jodo and iaido were held in Waalre. This year the tournament was organized by the Ren Bu Kan dojo. A total of 15 members of Yushinkan participated and all of them showed their best iaido. In the sandan (3rd dan) category all prizes were won by members of Yushinkan, Rick van de Hoef, Stan Engelen and Sander Filon won bronze, silver and gold, respectively. Piotr Kukla and David Smits won silver and gold, respectively in the godan (5th dan) category.
Our sisterdojos were also successful, Michel van der Meer (Marobashikai) and Bob Jagernath (Kodokan) won bronze and gold, respectively, in the shodan (1st dan) category. Jeroen Kanters (Marobashikai) won gold in the nidan (2nd dan) category and Elise Heijboer won gold in the yondan (4th dan) category.
Moreover, Bauyrzhan Murzamadiyev, a regular guest at Yushinkan, won the mudan (no dan) category. Yushinkan congratulates all participants!
Besides matches, ikkyu examinations were also held. Florus Kruyne, Rutger Kruitwagen and Inti Suarez all passed for their ikkyu. Well done!
Ishido cup 2016, Utrecht
On the 23rd and the 24th of Januari, the Ishido cup took place in Utrecht. On the 23rd the iaido seminar, iaido matches and iaido examinations took place. The number of participants from many different countries keeps growing every year. Matches were held during the afternoon. Rick van de Hoef won gold in the nidan (2nd dan) category; in the sandan (3rd dan) category Sander Filon and Stan Engelen won silver and bronse, respectively. The godan (5th dan) category was dominated by Yushinkan, David Smits and Piotr Kukla met in the finals in which David won gold. Besides Yushinkan, our sisterdojo Kodokan also won gold twice. Bob Jagernath did so in the mudan (without dan) category and Elise Heijboer did so in the yondan (4th dan) category.
Around 6 o'clock, examinations took place. Andr� van den Dolder passed for ikkyu (1st kyu), Damion van der Zee and Rick van de Hoef passed for sandan. Bob Jagernath (Kodokan) and Joop (Marobashikai) passed for shodan (1st dan), Roel Meelkop (Kodokan) passed for sandan.
Yushinkan is very pleased with the results and congratulates all the participants with their results.
A new godan: Piotr
The Nakakura-cup, a big kendo, jodo and iaido seminar in Brussel, was held in the weekend of the 19th and the 20th of December. Examination took place on sunday. Piotr Kukla passed for his godan (5th black belt)! Congratulations!
European Championships 2015, Berlin
Yushinkan sent four participants along for the European Championships that were held in Berlin this year: Rick van de Hoef for nidan, Sander Filon and Stan Engelen for sandan and finally Piotr Kukla for yondan; out of these four, three were also part of the team during the team championships.
After an exhausting day of matches, Sander Filon secured the only medal by achieving a third place in the sandag category.

BKA summer seminar, Stevenage 2015
On the 8th, 9th and 10th of August, the big BKA summer seminar took place in Stevenage. Several members of Yushinkan traveled to England to participate. Matches were held on the 10th, Jacky Visser and Stan Engelen won first prize and third prize respectively. Piotr Kukla won the Fighting Spirit Prize in the yondan category.
Bob Jagernath (sisterdojo Kodokan) won two prizes, he won third prize and the Fighting Spirit in the mudan category.

Hachidan iaido, Kyoto 2015
Kinomoto Miyuki sensei passed her hachidan (8th dan) examination on the 3rd of May at the Kyoto taikai. Kinomoto sensei is the deshi of Matsuoka sensei. Yushinkan congratulates Kinomoto sensei with this milestone!

On the 12th of April 2015, the Dutch national championships jodo and iaido were held in Amersfoort. Yushinkan Participated with many people. David won first place godan division. Piotr Kukla won first place in the yondan division. Yushinkan got a 'clean sweep' in the sandan division: Stan Engelen, Sander Filon and Jacky Visser won first, second and third place, respectively. Rick van de Hoef won first place in the nidan division, Tace Sijbrandij won second place in the shodan division.

Orly seminar 2015, France
The annual Orly seminar took place in March under the supervision of Patrick Dupin. Several Yushinkan members traveled to Paris and trained for several days. A seminar took place at the end of the seminar. Stan Engelen ended 2nd in the Matsuoka category, whereas Alexandra Grandmougin and Piotr Kukla both ended 3rd in that same category. Congratulations to all!

National sportweek 2015
The Dutch national sportweek is held from the 18th of April till the 25th of April. During this week everyone in The Netherlands has a chance to explore new sports. Yushinkan participates and therefore organises a open training on the 21st of April. From 19:00 till 20:00 everyone is welcome to be introduced to iaido and even participate in a training.
Ishidocup January 2015
The annual Ishidocup took place in Utrecht this January. Where Yushinkan, once again, achieved beautiful results in the Iaido matches.
David Smits won first place in the godan category, Piotr Kukla second in the yondan category, Rick van de Hoef and Damion van der Zee first, respectively third place in the nidan category and Sander Filon has justly been rewarded with the Fighting Spirit prize.
The examinations were held after the matches, where Sandra Philips passed her sandan and Taco Sijbrandij his shodan examination.
Our sister dojo's performed admirably as well. Elise Heijboer and Baukje Weber, both from Kodokan, won the second and respectively third place in the sandan category. Furthermore, Elise was able to pass her yondan examination. Jeroen Kanters (Marobashikai) passed his nidan and both Joop Kortz (Marobashikai) and Sjaak van den Bos ( Kodokan) passed their ikkyu examinations.
And as an added result, both Elise and Piotr won prizes at the Jodo matches as well. Yushinkan would like to congratulate all medal winners and passed examination candidates.
Iaido examinations in December 2014
Iaido examinations took place on different locations in December. Firstly, there were kyu examinations in Den Bosch at our sister dojo Marobashikai. Andr� van den Dolder particpated and passed his sankyu (3rd kyu) examination.
Secondly, dan examinations took place in Brussel at the end of the Nakakura Cup, the big kendo, jodo and iaido seminar. Sander Filon succesfully participated in the sandan (3rd dan) examination. A member of our sisterdojo Kodokan, Baukje Weber, also passed her examination.

Norddeutscher Iaido Koryu Taikai 2014, Hamburg
Koryu matches were organized in Hamburg on the 15th of November, Yushinkan participated with 4 dojomembers. In the sandan category Jacky Visser and Stan Engelen won first and second prize, respectively. Next, they were invited to participate in the yondan/godan category. David Smits and Piotr Kukla also competed in this category.
All prizes were won by members of our dojo. David won first prize, whereas Stan won second prize, Piotr and Jacky both took third place. Jeroen Kanters, from our sisterdojo Marobashikai competed In the mudan/shodan category, in which he won first price. Congratulations to everyone!
European championship iaido 2014, Helsinki
During the European championships iaido in Finland, six members of Yushinkan represented The Netherlands. On saturday, during the individual matches, both godan members of our dojo, David Smits and Elaine van Ommen Kloeke, won a medal. David Smits won a bronze medal, whereas Elaine van Ommen Kloeke won the silver medal.
On sunday, during the team matches, the Dutch team also won the silver medal. Rick van de Hoef, Stan Engelen, Elaine van Ommen Kloeke en David Smits, all from Yushinkan, got beaten only by the Polish team in the finals.

Sandan examinations June 2014, VIllingen
On the 22nd of June Alexandra Grandmougin passed her sandan exam in Villingen. Congratulations!

Jeroen Kanters, from our sisterdojo Marobashinkai, won third place in the shodan division and Michel van der Meer, from the same dojo, won second place in the mudan division. Finally, Damion van der Zee won the Fighting Spirit prize. Our heartfelt congratulations to every participant.

Orly seminar 2014, France
The annual Orly seminar took place on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of February.
Yushinkan participated with a large group of students and trained under the guidance of Matsuoka sensei and Kinomoto sensei.
On the Sunday of this seminar the annual Shinkage-ryu taikai was held.
The taikai was organised in two divisions, the first until nidan and the other starting from sandan and up.
Sander Filon won the second price in the first division, whereas Elaine van Ommen Kloeke won second place in the second division. In this division David Smits and Jacky Visser both won third place.
Both first places were won by members of our sisterdojo Kodokan. Baukje Weber and Elise Heijboer won the first and second division, respectively.
Ishidocup 2014
The Dutch Kendo Renmei, in cooperation with Yushinkan, organised the annual Ishido cup on 25 and 26 January 2014. It was a great success with many foreign sensei and participants. Yushikan was well represented and won several prizes. Rick van de Hoef and Damion van der Zee won gold and silver, respectively, in the shodan (1st dan) category; Stan Engelen won silver in the sandan (3rd dan) category; Piotr Kukla won silver in the yondan (4th dan) category; and David Smits won gold in the godan (5th dan) category.
Besides matches, there were also examinations where both Rick van de Hoef and Damion van der Zee passed their nidan (2nd dan) examinations. Jeroen Kanters and Daan Landwehr Johan, both members of our sisterdojo Marobashikai, passed their shodan and sandan examination, respectively. Moreover, J�rre Holland and Roel Meelkop, both members of our sisterdojo Kodokan, passed their shodan and nidan examination, respectively.

Iaido examinations in December 2013

Dutch national championships 2013, Hilversum
On the 21st of April 2013, the Dutch national championships jodo and iaido were held in Hilversum.
Yushinkan Participated with many people. Rick van de Hoef won first place in the shodan division, in that same division Damion van der Zee won second place.
Furthermore Stan Engelen won first place in the nidan division. Piotr Kukla won first place in the yondan division, Elaine van Ommen Kloeke and David Smits won respectively second and third place in that category.

Shinkage-ryu Seminar and Taikai 2013
The annual Orly seminar took place during the weekend of the 15th, 16th and 17th of March.
Yushinkan participated with a large group of students and trained under the guidance of Matsuoka-sensei and Kinomoto-sensei.
On the Sunday of this seminar the annual Shinkage-ryu taikai was held.
The taikai was organised in two divisions, the first until nidan and the other starting from sandan and up.
The prize for the winner of the second group is a short trip to Japan to train with Matsuoka-sensei and Kinomoto-sensei in Nagoya.
Stan Engelen won the first price in the first division, whereas Elaine van Ommen Kloeke won first price in the second division. This means she will travel to Japan to train with the sensei, congratulations!

Ishidocup 2013
This year Yushinkan was privileged to organized the Ishidocup in Utrecht. Unlike previous years the tournament was spread out over two days, iaido on Saturday and jodo on Sunday. This allowed Yushinkan to organize a seminar in the morning and matches in the afternoon. The iaido seminar was led by Chris Mansfield sensei (Nanadan, England), Patrick de Muynck sensei (Nanadan, Belgium) and Aad van de Wijngaard sensei (Nanadan, Netherlands), the jodo seminar was led by Chris Mansfield sensei.
Yushinkan had a large amount of participants in the iaido matches and can congratulate several members with some nice results. Rick van de Hoef won the gold medal in the mudan division. Stan Engelen won the nidan division, Sander Filon won the bronze medal in that same division. Piotr Kukla won the gold medal in the Yondan division, whereas David Smits took the bronze medal.
There were also examinations held, Rick van de Hoef and Damion van der Zee passed for their shodan, Steven Noorlander and Sandra Phillips for their nidan and Arne for his sandan. Congratulations!
Yushinkan also wants to congratulate her sister dojos with their results in both the matches (Roel Meelkop ended 3rd in the mudan division and Baukje Weber 2nd in the nidan division) and the examinations (Roel Meelkop passed for his shodan and Tom Koevermans for his sandan).
Mudan tournament 2012
The annual mudan tournament was held in Zoetermeer, this tournament is specially for starting iaidoka. Many medals were to be won. Several members of Yushinkan won one or more medals;
Rick van de Hoef won 2 times gold (sanbon shobu, ikkyu en Ippon shobu, Kesa giri) and 1 time bronze (ippon shobu, Tsuka ate), Damion van der Zee won 1 time silver (Ippon shobu, Tsuka ate)
and 2 times bronze (sanbon shobu, ikkyu en ippon shobu, Morote tsuki) and Taco Sijbrandij won a silver medal (sanbon shobu, mudan).

European championship iaido 2012, The UK
During the European championships iaido in the UK, four members of the Yushinkan represented The Netherlands.
Piotr Kukla won the bronze medal in the yondan category. Yushinkan congratulates Piotr on this good performance. Yushinkan would also like to congratulates Baukje Weber from Kodokan Rotterdam on her bronze medal in the shodan category.

Ishido cup 2013
Yushinkan, in collaboration with the NKR, will organize the Ishido Cup in January 2013. At this annual tournament foreign budoka�s are more than welcome.
Traditionally budoka from Belgium, France, Swiss and England participate. All information on this first event of the new year can be found here.
Summer seminar 2012
Yushinkan was represented by a number of iaidoka during the big summer seminar in Eindhoven. Besides many hours of training, examinations took place. Bart Vos and Damion van der Zee both passed for their ikkyu. Congratulations!
Dutch national championships 2012
On the 22nd of April 2012, the Dutch national championships jodo and iaido were held in Rotterdam.
Yushinkan Participated with 11 people. Sander Filon won first place in the shodan division, in that same division both Sandra Philips and Kasimir van Rijn won third place.
Furthermore Stan Engelen won first place in the nidan division. Elaine van Ommen Kloeke won first place in the yondan/godan division, David Smits and Piotr Kukla won respectively second and third place in that category.

Shinkage-ryu Seminar and Taikai 2012
The annual Orly seminar took place during the weekend of the 23rd, 24th and 25th of March.

In the very exciting finals two Yushinkan iaidoka competed side by side; Stan Engelen versus David Smits. In the end David emerged as winner, this means he will travel to Japan to train with the sensei, congratulations!
We would also like to congratulate Baukje Weber of Kodokan with the fair-play prize, this prize is awarded by the spectators of the matches, congratulations!
Ishido Cup 2012
On January 15th, the annual open championships jodo and iaido were held. This year, the Ishido Cup took place in Waalre and once again attracted many participants, among whom a number of guests from abroad.
Yushinkan was well represented in this competition and managed to win many awards. In the shodan division, Sander Filon took second place. From the nidansha group, noone was able to beat Stan Engelen, who thus ended first. The yondan division had a number of nerve wrecking matches, from which Elaine van Ommen Kloeke and David Smits were able to emerge victorious in respectively first and second place. Yushinkan congratulates its members for these achievements.
Traditionnally, the competition was followed by exams, in which Steven Noorlander, Sandra Philips and Kasimir van Rijn were all able to pass their shodan exams. Congratulations to all!

After the Nakakura-cup, a big and well known kendo, jodo and iaido seminar in Brussels, 3 of the Yushinkan iaidoka participated in the dan-examinations. Jasper and Stan passed for their nidan and Piotr passed for his Yondan. Congratulations!

European championship iaido 2011, Andorra
During the European championships iaido in Andorra, five members of the Yushinkan represented The Netherlands.
Two of the Yushinkan members were part of the team for the team-competition. The team ended winning the second prize after a thrilling final against winner Italy. Yushinkan would like to congratulate the whole Dutch team, including coach, with this second place.

During the Dutch national championships Yushinkan was very successful. Sander Filon won first place in the mudan division, in that same division Steven Noorlander won third place. Furthermore Stan Engelen won first place in the shodan division and Jacky Visser won first place in the nidan division. David Smits won first place in the yondan division. Yushinkan congratualates her iaidoka with their prestations.
Shinkage-ryu Taikai 2011
On Sunday the 27th of March the annual European Shinkage-ryu taikai was held in Orly (FR). The taikai was divided in two divisions, the first division until nidan, the second division sandan and up.
The prize for the winner of the second division: a short trip to Nagoya, Japan, to train under the supervision of the sensei.
In the first division Stan Engelen won.
In the finals of the second division Elaine van Ommen Kloeke and Piotr Kukla (both Yushinkan) competed. After a thrilling match Elaine van Ommen Kloeke came out victorious. She will (once again) make the trip to Japan.
Achievements in January 2011
during the Ishido cup Jacky Visser has won the second place in the nidan division. In the sandan/yondan division Erwin Stolwijk won the third prize and Piotr Kukla got second. Yushinkan would like to congratulate her iaidoka with these achievements.
During the exams after the competition the following persons passed their examens. Jasper Helthuis for Ikkyu, Arne for his shodan, Gerrit Lacroix for his nidan. And Alenxander van Nijen and Mathieu Doorduyn for their sandan.
One day later in Iwakura, Japan, David Smits and Elaine van Ommen Kloeke passed for their yondan exam.

Yondan 2009
On December the 12th Erwin Stolwijk passed his yondan exam in Brussels (BE). Hereby the Yushinkan dojo congratulates her dojoleader with this achievement.

On April 11th 2010, the Dutch Kendo Renmei, together with Yushinkan, will organise the Dutch Championships jodo and iaido.
European Championships Iaido 2009 results
During the EC iaido in Mierlo, The Netherlands, Elaine van Ommen Kloeke has participated in the sandan division. She won the fighting Spirit prize, congratulations!
Shinkage-ryu Taikai 2010
On Sunday 29th of March the European Shinkage-ryu Taikai was held in Orly, France. The competition was split in two divisions: one up to nidan (2-dan) and one for sandan (3-dan) and higher.
The first prize for the second group is a short training-trip to Japan to practice under our Japanese sensei.
Special prizes in the first division were won by Jacky Visser (Yushinkan) and Rianne de Rijke (Shofukan).
In the highest division Piotr Kukla and David Smits (both Yushinkan) won special prizes.
The overall winner was Elaine van Ommen Kloeke (Yushinkan), she won the Taikai after a very exciting final, congratulations!
European Championship iaido 2008
As was the case in the last couple of years, a few members of Yushinkan dojo have been selected to represent The Netherlands at the European Championships 2008 in Switzerland. This time around it was up to Piotr and Elaine to keep up Yushinkan's reputation. Elaine had also been selected to participate in the national teams competition. We are very pleased by the team's performance: they came in third overall. Afterwards Piotr has passed his 3-dan examination. Congratulations to both of them!
Yushinkan jubilee 2008
On November 4th 2008 Yushinkan will celebrate its tenth birthday. Without the efforts of the former teachers and members this milestone couldn't have been reached. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them as well as any teachers from other dojo's and volunteers that have supported Yushinkan in any way. Without the help of all these people the dojo wouldn't be where it is at now. Thanks!

Dutch Championships 2008
At the Dutch Championships in Zoetermeer, the following members of Yushinkan received a price: Jack Visser: 1st place mudan, Annienke Pieters: 3rd place mudan, Taif Rahim: 3rd place shodan, Piotr Kukla: 3rd place nidan, Elaine van Ommen Kloeke: 1st place sandan and a shared 3rd place sandan for David Smits and Erwin Stolwijk. In total 7 of the 28 available prices were collected by Yushinkan. Yushinkan would like to congratulate the price winners with this historic victory! After the matches Ashwin Karis successfully completed his 1st kyu examination. Congratulations!

Iaido examinations, Ishido Cup 2008
After the seminar during the Ishido-cup the Dutch Kendo Renmei organised examination for the first kyu up to Sandan. Annienke Pieters, Jacky Visser and Gerrit Lacroix have successfully passed their Ikkyu examination. And Mathieu Doorduyn has succesfully passed for his Nidan, congratulations!

Ashwin Karis got the third price in the youth division, Jacky Visser a second price in the mudan division and Berry Kuijer a third price in the sandan division. After the Dutch Championship the Dutch Kendo Renmei organised examination for the first kyu. Cees-Jan van Beek, Taif Rahim and Peter Bas Disberg have successfully passed this examination, congratulations!
Olympic Weekend 2007
On 20, 21 and 22th of April the Olympic Weekend was held in Utrecht. On Sunday Yushinkan also opened her doors. There was a greater turnout than last year and we were happy to tell and show people what iaido really is. Yushinkan party 2006
Tuesday November 14 was a special day for Yushinkan. The three reasons were: Yushinkan celebrated her eight year anniversary; Berry Kuijer has received permission to teach Shinkageryu iaido; and the three people who took the Introduction course have deceided to become full members of Yushinkan. For this event, Yushinkan organised a special video-trainingsession and members could test the effectiveness of their cutting technics by cutting newspapers.

On may 28th the Dutch Championships Iaido and Jodo were held. During these championships Yushinkan has won a third price in the mudan division. Other medals were in the nidan division: Elaine van Omme Kloeke third, David Smits second and Erwin Stolwijk first. In the sandan division has Berry Kuijer won a second place.
Europian Shinkageryu taikai 2006
During the third Shinkageryu taikai, held on april 2nd, Elaine van Ommen Kloeke won the Miyuki-award. This is the first price for the category 0 to 2nd Dan.
Olympic weekend 2006
On the 20st, 22nd and the 23rd of April the Olympic weekend will take place in Utrecht. During this weekend various sportclubs will give demonstrations and workshops. On Saturday Yushinkan will give demonstrations in the sportscomplex "Hoograven". It is also possible to attend workshops. More information about this weekend can be found at: www.olympischweekend.nl. Berry Kuijer and David Smits have been selected to participate at the European Championship Iaido. The EC will be held from 30 October until 1 November in Bologna, Italy.
